Te Uku Wind Farm

OVERVIEW

In 2009 construction began on the Waikato’s first wind farm in Te Uku. Installation of the 28 SWT 2.3-101 MW VS turbines began in 2010 and was completed by the end of 2010. Despite the logistical challenges caused by its remote location, the 26kms of farm roads and the 28 farm gates, the Te Uku Wind Farm was completed on time and now contributes up to 64.4 megawatts of power primarily to the local grid with any overflow going to the national grid. ISS was also awarded the contract to fabricate, supply and install the steel HV/LV covers for the 28 external transformers.
